Edged ‘Tops Out’ New Ultra-Efficient, Sustainable Data Center in New Albany, Ohio

World-class facility expected to save nearly 95 million gallons of water each year and deliver 24 MW of critical capacity to the Silicon Heartland

NEW ALBANY, OH (October 22, 2024)Edged Energy marked a significant milestone last week with the ‘topping out’ of the company’s newest state-of-the-art data center in New Albany, Ohio. Strategically located at 6525 New Albany Road East, less than 20 minutes from Downtown Columbus, the sustainable data center is designed for high-density Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads and equipped with advanced waterless cooling and ultra-efficient energy systems.

The topping out event kicked off with remarks by Mayor Spalding and Edged leadership and included a ceremonial beam signing. The event was attended by New Albany city officials, business leaders and key project partners and showcased the collaboration between Edged, FCL Builders and local utility provider AEP Ohio. The new data center is expected to come online in July 2025.

“Today marks a significant step in our shared journey toward a more sustainable, technologically advanced, and economically robust future,” said New Albany Mayor Sloan Spalding during his speech. “Here in New Albany, we have made it a priority to partner with companies like Edged who are not just invested in our community’s economic success but are also deeply committed to the long-term health and sustainability of our region. Together, we’re building a community where businesses thrive, families flourish, and innovation drives us toward a sustainable and prosperous future.”

The Edged facility will be outfitted with the ThermalWorks waterless cooling system. The modular system supports densities of up to 70 kW per rack with air cooling and 200 kW per rack with plug-and-play liquid cooling integration. Unlike other waterless cooling solutions, this advanced technology is ultra-efficient, delivering industry-leading average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.15 portfolio-wide, which helps Edged dramatically reduce energy overhead by 74% compared with the global average PUE of 1.58 reported by the Uptime Institute.

Edged Chief Operating Officer Mitch Fonseca remarked from the podium: “The Edged Columbus data center will bring critical capacity to one of the fastest-growing data center markets in the country. Most importantly though, our facility will support the region’s thriving digital economy in a way that conserves and protects precious local resources. Unlike traditional data centers that use billions of gallons of water each year and put pressure on the local power grid, Edged Columbus is uniquely optimized for both energy and water efficiency with waterless cooling and ultra-efficient energy systems.”

Edged is a subsidiary of Endeavour with nearly a dozen new data centers operating or under construction across Europe and North America and a gigawatt-scale project pipeline. Edged Columbus joins a growing network of data centers currently operating or under construction across the U.S., including in Atlanta, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas and Phoenix.
